Jon Haveman is the Executive Director of the National
Economic Education Delegation (NEED). He is a noted
California economist, where he has been practicing
since 2001.

Immigration is a policy issue with both social and economic implications. Economics has something to say about both. This presentation will shed light on several aspects of immigration that tend to overwhelm the narrative. These are: crime, government support programs, and jobs. It will also raise other issues that ought to be contemplated when developing appropriate immigration policy. This presentation will help members of the audience make sense of the currently hyperbolic treatment of the immigration issue.

The Exotic Cars and Coffee Show

Whether you own a car, truck or motorcycle, you will find the Exotic Cars and Coffee Show a very interesting way of enjoying and remembering all those fun cars that we had or wished we had. The event is held on Sunday May 19th at Hobby Lobby, 990 Cochrane Road, Morgan Hill.

SIRS will meet at 9:00 am in front of the Hobby Lobby on Sunday, May 19th for a photo. We can then go at our leisure and enjoy all those timeless cars that were a part of our lives and memories.

For information or questions contact Chuck Moggia at 408-623-1078

Regarding future outings Gordon Biersch Brewery was mentioned to me as a possible visit site but due to the Pandemic they have not restarted tours.  I will keep checking as I know we all like beer.

Let’s Hike with Marcel

Dear Hiking Sirs,

In my earlier email, I named our next hike the Guadeloupe Creek Trail hike which is not what I had in mind.  We will be doing the Los Alamitos Trail.  We will meet at the Almaden Lake Park Winfield Avenue entrance also.  As it happens, both trails meet at the Almaden Park but the Guadeloupe Trail turns west and crosses Almaden Expressway which makes it less desirable.

If I confuse you, I am sorry but we are doing the Los Alamitos Trail and we are meeting near the entrance on Winfield Avenue at 10:00 A.M..  Do not park inside as it will cost you unless you have a San Jose City parking permit.  There is a lot of room on the street once you pass by the entrance.  Let me emphasize that this one is more like a walk in the park rather than a hike.  We will, however, do between 3 and 4 miles.

Let me know if you are coming and call me at (408)206-0532 if you need more info.

Where did that VW come from?

P.S.  I have attached a tentative hiking schedule for 2024.  Be aware that we can be flexible due to weather reports, requests from you, or conflicts with other events.

April 2024 TOURNAMENT

Callippe Golf Preserve

Callippe Golf Preserve

We had a fantastic round at Callippe with perfect weather and the course in good shape except for the greens. The greens had been aeriated and not completely recovered. We did very good on par 3’s but fell off the truck on the par 5’s which cost us the game.

Peter Catherwood, Charlie Raisor, Ken Walling & Nelson Chew finished 7th, had a great front 9 but faded on the back. Ken Hengst & his team came in 6th. The beat us again.
